Within the framework of Mongolia’s 2026–2030 Five-Year Development Guidelines and the national Energy Sector Reform, a new 50 MW thermal power plant is planned to be built in Dalanzadgad soum of Ömnögovi Province. The Government of Mongolia and the Governor’s Office of Ömnögovi Province have authorized financing of this project through a local government bond, as reflected in the province’s “Growing Ömnögovi” Operational Program for 2024–2028. Preparations for issuing provincial securities are currently underway. The plant is scheduled to be commissioned in 2028.
Once operational, the power plant will produce 367.1 million kWh of electricity and 56.5 thousand Gcal of thermal energy annually. This will enable the supply of electricity to approximately 8,800 households and heating to 4,920 consumers, while also creating 170 new jobs. A total of 12.6 hectares of land has been allocated for the construction of the plant.
This new power station will not only meet the energy demand of Dalanzadgad soum but will also help reduce the regional energy load, strengthen autonomous energy supply, and provide essential infrastructure support for mining projects, tourism development, and local economic growth.
